AUTUMN REFLECTIONS for Linda
I painted this a couple of years ago, but neglected to photograph it, before sending it to my sister. I was thinking of our relationship and the changes over the years, at this, the autumn of our lives. I finally got a copy recently, and it seems fitting to post at this time of year. The technique was accomplished by building up layers with a pallet knife. It is one of my favorite paintings.

Three Generations of South Women
I have so enjoyed using my artist eye to "see" my heritage. My grandmother is on the left and great grandmother in the middle. The woman on the right is a great aunt and the child is my aunt. All of these women are gone now, but they were all special to me and portraying them in their youth gave me alot of insight into myself. I continue to enjoy painting with gesture strokes and keeping the detail to a minimum. This was challenging on the faces, but I recognize each of them as portrayed. It was painted from a black and white photo that I have always loved for many reasons, but mainly because I can so recognize my Granny Nellie's expression in myself and in how she was. She was very determined once she made up her mind about something! I wonder what she was fixed on here.

Blue Heron Haven
I reworked this painting below adding more contrast and darker darks/lighter lights. The focal point is more dominant. It feel a little more finished to me now.
These great birds are found hunting in the many waterways of Florida. This image depicts the deep hammock of back woods Florida. I saw deep and cool and mysterious in this painting.

Second Hand Rose
This painting was created for the publicity campaign for Atlantic Center for the Arts fundraiser, "Second Hand Rose" fashion show and boutique. After the show, the committee members purchased the painting as a gift to the Chairwoman, for doing such a great job. I am a member of this league and was happy to contribute to the event that raises money for the children's art programs.

Women With Attitude
This painting is a work in progress in the "Slivka" style, I love. I haven't touched it since the first quick rendering, but it has been hanging on my wall. I like it as is, just hard to let it be.

SURFER GIRLS
Capturing the feeling and movement of Surfer Girls was the goal in this painting. I am learning about loose, fresh figure impressions, and this is an example of that. The idea is to capture the movement and atmosphere in very quick strokes. I like the way this one came out.

Nancy Unplugged
This painting of my lifetime friend Nancy, was inspired by her rare mood ( unless you really know her) The lighting and feeling of the moment was what I hoped to capture more than a perfect likeness.
